Preliminary STAAR Results Announced

“We are so proud of all our students, teachers and administrators for their hard work and success on the exams,” said Tim Harkrider, Superintendent. “Testing is just one small part of the important work we do as a school district, and to do that well is exciting.”

The district is also pleased to announce that Lynn Lucas Middle School, which just last year was named Improvement Required, also received a Met Standard rating. The one year turnaround was led by Principal Kim Sprayberry, a former Assistant Principal At Lynn Lucas, who returned to the campus last year after a stint as Principal at Cannan Elementary.

Mr. Harkrider shared that Willis ISD saw 26 out of 31 tested areas improve in the year 2017, and stated, “This much improvement is an amazing accomplishment, and one that I want all our teachers and parents to be proud of.”

The district exceeded the state average in several areas, including all five End of Course Exams (EOC’s) at Willis High School. Additionally, secondary campuses improved in 81% of tested areas while elementary campuses improved in 31% of tested areas.

Turner Elementary earned a Distinction Designation in Top 25 Percent Student Progress, a measure of how well a school’s top 25 percent of students are performing; and Meador Elementary earned a Distinction Designation in Academic Achievement in ELA/Reading.
